Bakarac

Bakarac is a small town located twenty four kilometers of Rijeka, the third biggest city in Croatia. It stands at the south eastern part of the Bay of Bakar. The main occupations are fishing, farming and tourism.

Bakarac is surrounded by spectacular landscapes. Private holiday homes have big gardens. Visitors can explore the ancient Roman ruins on Gradac Peak where three ancient milesones have been discovered. Bakarac was a port for Hreljin District from the Middle Ages. Another sight to see is the old parish church of Saints Peter and Paul built in the 18th century. The vineyards are enclosed in the "suhozid", which is a distinct way to create walls so that the land does not erode. The wall is built without binding materials.
