Lovran
For over one hundred years Lovran has been one of the must popular tourist towns in the Mediterranean. With it’s 12-km long coastal promenade stretching along the coast from Lovran through the town of Opatija and ending in Volosko. The city of Lovran has some unique forests of sweet chestnuts (also known as Lovran maroons).
While you are there don’t forget to check out the many local festivals including in April celebrate St. George’s Day, the patron saint of Lovran, Marunada the grand local feast in October to celebrate the gathering of maroon chestnuts ( one of Lovran major crops) and also from June to September gather round the tables for the local fishermen’s feasts and try all the tasty local cuisine. Lastly don’t forget to catch the International Yachting Regatta in November.
Lovran is known for it’s beautiful villas and parks. So while you are in Lovran a good place to stay is in one of the newly renovated villas Frapart, Astra, Eugenija, Magnolija and Blankenstein. Each of these villas date back to the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Lovran has two public beaches (Peharovo and Kvarner) as well as many private beaches and with about 2,230 hours of sunset a year the beach is always a great place to spent your time. Lovran is also home to the well known Orthopedic Clinic. The best in traditional health care.
