Lubenice

 

Lubenice is on the island of Cres in the Kvarner region of Croatia. This settlement is said to be over four thousand years old, and has been populated all throughout the years. Although there are only about 24 people that live here, and all of them are over the age of 65. There is a total of 40 buildings still standing in this village of ages. Although this village is almost fully abandoned it is a wonderful place to visit. There are beautiful surrounding sea, and many architectural sights to observe. This small village has a history like no other.

The name Lubenice is derived from a Latin word that means wintery although the Croatian translation means "watermelons". This is probably because of the wind that blows non stop through this part of the region, and its harsh winter snows. But do not think that because of this you should not visit. You will be amazed at the sights that this small community beholds. This village has with stood centuries of turmoil and it is difficult to think that it may not continue on.
