Goli otok is an Island placed between the north part of the Island of Rab and 6 km far from the Croatian coast. Only on south-east parts of the Island you can climb on the coast and also find a beach for swimming, because other sides are high, sharp and inapproachable. Its name comes from Croatian words which mean Naked Island because most part of the Island is consisted of naked rock slopes. Following the World war II, this Island was turned into a prison for political convicts, and after even for criminals. Today, the prison is ruin.
