Rab

Rab

Rab, a city of the same name as the island it lies on, has a verifiable history that dates back to the year 360 BC. Truly stunning, not only because Rab is rich in historic ruins and remnants but also because of the absolutely breathtaking scenery that surrounds this magnificent city. Literally translated, Rab’s original name ‘Arba‘ means ‘Dark Island‘. It’s a name that stemmed from the densely populated forests of pine trees that once covered the island. Though no longer densely covered , pine trees are still abundant on the island and with the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea at its feet and ancient ruins throughout the city, Rab has a very charming and enchanted look and feel.

Offering many varied water activities from sunbathing on one of several beautiful beaches to swimming, diving or snorkeling to excursions via chartered or rental boats, as well as ferry service to nearby islands, Rab has something for everyone. Expect modern amenities in this ancient city that boasts not just one but two water-front Hotels with almost every room overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The idyllic city of Rab is also the birthplace of Saint Marinus, the founder of San Marino, the small city and country which is surrounded by Italy on all sides. Be sure to visit one of the many restaurants within Rab that offer authentic local cuisine to complete your unforgettable Croatian experience.
